The Second Nativity

When Jesus appeared the first time we saw Mary and Joseph, a divine conception, virgin birth, signs in the heavens, and wise men. That was a very specific and personal fulfillment of many prophecies, but now in 2017 it looks like we are witnessing the same thing happening again, but this time it is not just a virgin girl from Israel about to go into labor, but all of creation:

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
– Romans 8:22-24

The Apostle Paul tells us that creation itself is undergoing labor pains until the children of God are revealed. This revealing, the “redemption of our bodies”, is none other than the resurrection and rapture of the Church (1 Thess. 4:16-18, 1 Cor. 15:51-53). The prophet Isaiah confirms that the earth is going to give birth to God’s people and then they will be hidden away in a place of safety:

Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise.
You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy!
For your dew is a dew of light,
and the earth will give birth to the dead.

Come, my people, enter your chambers,
and shut your doors behind you;
hide yourselves for a little while
until the fury has passed by.
– Isaiah 26:19-20
