St. Tammany Jury Convicts Madisonville Man Of Aggravated Rape Of A 4-Year-Old

A St. Tammany Parish jury Thursday (Sept. 10) convicted a Madisonville man of the aggravated rape of a 4-year-old boy. The crime occurred in April 2012. Jurors voted 10-2 to find James Eley, 33, guilty after deliberating about 90 minutes. The trial had unfolded over two days before District Court Judge Allison Penzato, who set Eley’s sentencing for Sept. 28. Eley could face life in prison. Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair urged jurors to send Eley away, saying Eley made a fateful decision to enjoy “perverted pleasure.” “Don’t let him get away with it,” Adair said in his closing statement. Eley was a predator, Adair said, who chose his moment. When the 4-year-old’s mother’s and a friend’s attention was diverted during a campfire discussion in the backyard on a Friday night, Eley lured the boy next door, he said. There he assaulted him in a bathroom, Adair said.
