Secure My Eternity

Securing your place in heaven is the easiest and most important decision of your life. Let me show you what the Bible has to say about it.

1. Every person has sinned.

  • Isaiah 53:6 – All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.
  • Romans 3:10 – As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous — not even one.”
  • Romans 3:23 – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

What this means is that no matter how many good deeds you have done, or intended to do, you are still a sinner until you repent. You must first admit to God that you are a sinner, because we all are and there is no way around it. It’s part of being human.

2. Since we are all sinners, there is a price to pay and that price is an eternity in hell.

  • Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life though Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Revelation 20:15 – And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
  • Revelation 21:8 – “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Every person on earth who has not accepted Jesus as their savior will have a place in the lake of fire for eternity. So the question becomes, “How can I get rid of my sin so I don’t spend an eternity in hell?” This is where the Good News comes in.

3. Jesus paid the price for your sins by dying on the cross and shedding His blood. He was buried and rose again!

  • Romans 5:8 – But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
  • John 3:16 – “For God love the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.”
  • 1 Peter 1:18-19 – For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ , the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

God sent his only son who lived a sinless life to be beaten, tortured, ridiculed, and mocked so that He could die and pay the price for every sin that we have ever committed in the past and every sin we will ever commit in the future…every lie, every bad thought, every act of indecency. So now that we have a way out of our sinful lives, what do we do?

4. We can be saved ONLY by believing in Jesus Christ.

  • John 6:40 – “For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
  • Acts 26:18 – to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.’
  • Romans 10:13 – For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
  • Galatians 3:26 – For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Want to replace your eternity in hell with an eternity in heaven? Start with 1 simple thing: believe. Believe, in your heart, that you are a sinner. Believe that Jesus died for your sins, was buried and rose again. Salvation is as simple as Romans 10:9 … if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Once you believe it, it’s as simple as saying it like this:

I admit to you that I am a sinner. I truly believe in my heart that you died for my sins and were raised from the dead. Please forgive me of my sins. I know that I cannot be saved by any of my own good deeds, but only by believing in you as my personal Savior. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.

You are now a part of the family of God! Just as you were born physically to your parents, you are now born spiritually into God’s family. Your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life and you are redeemed! To make your walk with Jesus closer I suggest 2 other things: become a member of a local church and read the Bible.

You can search for a church near you here. You can start a daily, on-line, Bible reading here. This daily reading will be emailed to you every morning and will cover 1 New Testament chapter per day (5 minutes of reading) and will complete the entire New Testament in 1 year. I challenge you to complete it before Jesus returns for us, because it’s close! He is coming soon!

One final thought on eternity and how you will be spending it in heaven:

“High in the North in a land called Svithjod there is a mountain. It is a hundred miles long and a hundred miles high and once every thousand years a little bird comes to this mountain to sharpen its beak. When the mountain has thus been worn away a single day of eternity will have passed.”
