End Times – Jesus

The End Times According To Jesus

Below is a list of current world events related to Bible prophecy that correlate with the end times message. By reading though and understanding the events that are taking place, it should make it easier to comprehend the news articles that I post and how they relate to Luke 21:28.

Luke 21:28 is basically the theme of this website. It says, “So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”  There are few points that you need to understand about this verse.

Jesus said when “all” these things being to happen. He did not say when 1 or 2 of them begin. He referenced every event that he was previously discussing (which I will elaborate on).

Jesus said when they “begin” to happen. He did not say after they have been going on for several years, or after they all come to an end. Luke 21 and Matthew 24 are basically synonymous chapters. Jesus is describing the same events to different disciples. In Matthew 24:8 He mentions “birth pangs” or “birth pains” or “sorrows” depending on the translation. What he means there is when these events “begin” they will become increasingly stronger and more frequent, similar to a woman’s contractions in labor.

Jesus said our salvation is “near.” He did not say your salvation is still a ways down the road so kick back and try to make it through it.

Putting those 3 points together you can understand that when “ALL” the events Jesus was describing to His disciples “BEGIN” to happen, then and only then will His return be “NEAR.”

What are the “things” that Jesus was talking about that we should be looking for? Matthew, Mark and Luke each describe the events a little differently.

a. Paraphrasing Matthew, he says there will be wars and rumors of wars, nation will fight nation and kingdom will fight kingdom, there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places. He continues on to say Christians will be hated by all nations, many will be offended and will betray and hate one another, false prophets will rise up, sin will be rampant, and the love of many will grow cold.

b.  Paraphrasing Mark, he also says there will be wars and rumors of wars and nations and kingdoms will rise against each other. Mark quotes Jesus as saying there will be earthquakes in various places and famines but these events are but the start of the birth pains and more will come.

c. Paraphrasing Luke, again, he mentions wars and insurrections and nations and kingdoms rising against each other. There will be GREAT earthquakes and famines and plagues, terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven. Jesus continued on telling Luke that before these happen there will be a time of great persecution for those who believe in him.

Let’s take a look at these things individually:

eq world

This map from smithsonianmag.com shows all 203,186 earthquakes from 1898 to 2003. Of course this doesn’t speak much about the number and intensity of earthquakes as it relates to the birth pangs.  But these numbers in the below images certainly show a massive increase in recent times. It’s plain to see how the number of quakes of significant magnitudes has skyrocketed.

eq 1

At the time of this entry (April 22, 2014) there have been 21 significant (6.0+) earthquakes in just the last 30 days. Referring to the first chart above that’s nearly 1/2 the amount of strong earthquakes in 1 month than occurred over a span of 38 years in the first part of the 20th century!

 Wars and Rumors of Wars

You cannot visit any news site today without seeing some report of one country against another. Most recently the US, Russia and Ukraine have been making headlines but the timeless feud between Israelis and Muslims never seems to end.

Relating wars to birth pangs, this video will give you a good representation of the increase in number and intensity over the years. The entire video is interesting but even if you start at the year 1700 (3:14 marker) and play forward you will notice how battles have intensified.

This chart shows the number of wars started from the year 1000 up to present time with an interval of 50 years. Since the turn of the 21st century, 54 battles have begun.

The point here is, with the trend of conflicts increasing as the years pass, could the world really survive another massive war, especially with nuclear capabilities? The answer is no because it will not happen. Before a World War 3 starts, God’s judgments in the form of seals, bowls and vials will be poured out upon the world after the rapture and those who survive to see the start of WW3 will see the Second Coming of Jesus in Revelation 19.

somalia famine

When people think Biblical famines, the 7-year famine of Egypt and Canaan around 1890 B.C. might come to mind. But since that time, the prophetic famines Jesus spoke of have littered the world, especially in the past 200 years.

What’s even more heartbreaking is amount of lives lost. Since the year 1,000 an estimated 166.5 million lives have been lost to famine alone. That’s about 1/2 the population of the United States today. Relating famines to current events, droughts all over the world are causing food prices to soar making it difficult for the poor to eat. Once the Antichrist takes over and creates a One World Government, you can rest assured that food will be divvy’d out by the government once the seal of Revelation 6:5 takes effect. Food prices will be at an all time high and eventually only those willing to take the mark of the beast will be able to purchase it.

One of the last things mentioned in the Olivet Discourse is plagues, or as we might call them, diseases. While earlier diseases wiped out large percentages of entire population, the most recent have still had a devastating mortality rate. For example, the worldwide flu pandemic from 1918-1920 killed 75 million people. More recently, the AIDS/HIV pandemic introduced in 1981 has taken more than 30 million lives.

Recent headlines, news and scientific studies show that the illnesses today are becoming more and more resistant to medical advances. This does not bode well for those who miss the rapture and could be subject to torment of Revelation 11:6 “[The 2 witnesses] They have the power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have the power to  turn the water into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.” To add to that, the last 7 judgments include an angel with a plague that will cause ugly, festering sores to break out on those who have taken the mark of the beast. Make no mistake, the pain that the world is suffering right now from diseases and infections amount to nothing compared to those coming soon in the tribulation.

Those who follow Jesus have been persecuted and mocked since the days when Jesus chose his disciples. The first documented case came from Nero of Rome. Christians were hated so much, many in those days thought Nero was THE Antichrist. Fast forward to the birth of Islam and the prophet Mohammed, Christians have faced endless persecution up to present day. Every year, the Christian non-profit organization Open Doors publishes a list of the top 50 countries where persecution of Christians for religious reasons is worst. Think about this, Open Doors is publishing a list of the TOP 50 countries out of 196 where Christian persecution is the worst. That’s more than 25% of the world that hates those who love Jesus? Why? Because of the spirit of the Antichrist. Satan knows his time and short and his deception is spreading faster than ever.

The Parable Of The Fig Tree

In Matthew 24:32-34 Jesus talks about the parable of the fig tree. He says, “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things take place.” The question then becomes what/who is the fig tree and how long is a generation? Throughout history, nations have been typified by “types and figures” to describe them.: Russia is the “bear”, America is the “eagle”, England is the “lion”, and Israel is the “fig tree.” So Jesus was saying that when Israel re-blooms, that generation would be the one to see the coming of the Son of Man. Israel came back into their own land in 1948. All other prophecies mean nothing, in relation to the last days, if this one prophecy had not been fulfilled. Second, how long does a generation live? Psalms 90:10 tells us “Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away.” If all this lines up, that means the generation that saw Israel become a nation would end right around 2017, possibly 2027. The question you have to ask yourself is, with everything that is going on in the world right now that point to the end times, could it really last until 2027? In my honest opinion, I would be shocked if we made it to 2017 before the rapture.

To conclude with the Olivet Discourse, Luke mentions other “terrifying things” that will also be taking place in the last days. I equate these to other natural disasters that seem to be increasing in frequency and intensity like volcano eruptions, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, erratic weather patterns (i.e. the recent polar vortex in the northern U.S.), sinkholes, wildfires, flooding, etc. Keep an eye on all these events because they are sure to increase in the time we are left on this earth.
